Why some think the devastation in Haiti could have been prevented

Interview with Dr. David L Heymann

Dr. David L Heymann of the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House tells Global Health TV why he thinks the suffering in Haiti was avoidable.

The poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti was rocked by a recent earthquake and its capital, Port au Prince, reduced to rubble. With the rescue mission now becoming one of rebuilding we ask how anyone could have seen it coming.

Heymann says that the rush of money and assistance to the fragile nation in the aftermath of the earthquake is not the answer; prevention and preparedness is.
