Pneumococcal Disease

1 million children die every year from a preventable disease

Pneumococcal bacterial infection causes pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis. 1.6 million people die each year worldwide - 50% are children under 5 years of age. This deadly disease is entirely preventable and treatable. A group of 18 international experts, led by the Sabin Vaccine Institute, have formed the Pneumococcal Awareness Council of Experts or PACE to raise awareness and reduce the mortality rate caused by the disease. Global Health TV speaks to PACE's Co-Chair, Orin Levine.
