A new summit to discuss health and education issues for women in Africa has been set up.

The first Leadership for Health African First Ladies Summit is set to take place from April 20th to April 21st in the US.

Areas such as HIV, maternal health, international health goals and education for girls will be covered at the summit.

There will also be a panel to discuss HIV and malaria, entitled Tackling AIDS/HIV and Malaria: Multi-partnered approaches for targeting and implementing effective interventions.

Rex W Tillerson, chairman and chief executive of ExxonMobil, which is sponsoring the event, said: "The Leadership for Health Summit provides an excellent opportunity to hold productive discussions about health and development programs in Africa and partnership strategies for the future.

Ted Alemayhu, founder and chief executive of US Doctors for Africa, added: "This summit is about identifying effective interventions and best practices to help the First Ladies achieve their objectives for their respective countries and Africa."

ExxonMobil has provided funds to fight malaria in 16 African countries.
