US pledges $246m to Uganda
The US has pledged a multi-million dollar aid package to help battle health problems in Uganda.
An agreement worth $246 million (£150 million) between the two nations has been signed, with the money also being spent on trade and agriculture.
The aid was announced by Johnie Carson, the US assistant secretary of state.
He said this comes after a 2002 agreement which launched the United States Agency for International Development's Integrated Strategic Plan, which aimed to support Uganda's development objectives.
Mr Carson added: "In 2009, the US government provided $246 million in grant assistance to Uganda as part of this continued US partnership with Uganda."
In other news, the Nigerian government signed a Global Fund Grant worth $669.39 million as part of the eight round funding scheme.
This money will be used to help in the fight against numerous illnesses and diseases within the country, including HIV, Aids, malaria and tuberculosis.
