Unicef reveals Tajikistan inoculation scheme
More than two million children in Tajikistan have been vaccinated against measles and rubella, Unicef has revealed.
The humanitarian group announced that over 2.2 million youngsters have been inoculated during the campaign, which ended earlier this week.
Nusratullo Salimov, the minister of health for Tajikistan, said that this accounts for 97 per cent of the country's one to 14-year-olds.
The immunisation scheme has taken place over two weeks in conjunction with the ministry of health and its international partners, including the World Health Organisaiton and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ruth Leano, Unicef's deputy representative in the nation, commented: "Timely immunization against childhood illnesses is an important and proven tool to prevent illness and to improve health and well-being of children. I would like to congratulate Tajikistan on the successful campaign."
Recently, it was revealed that few countries are implementing the use of new diarrhoea treatments which could save lives.
