Ugly Betty to help UN malaria campaign

A major US TV series is to raise awareness about a new United Nations (UN) initiative.

The Nothing But Nets scheme, which aims to help prevent malaria in Africa, will be featured on a forthcoming episode of Ugly Betty.

This will focus on the fictional fashion magazine at the centre of the show running a story on anti-malaria nets.

Adrianna Logalbo, director of Nothing But Nets, commented that she "loves" that the programme is helping the cause, saying that Betty is the "perfect TV character" to lend her support.

She explained: "Her determination to address the issue reminds us of the hundreds of thousands of Nothing But Nets supporters who are raising awareness and funds to send nets and save lives."

Earlier this week, a new net distribution scheme was launched in Zambia.

This involved the items being delivered to individuals by World Vision in an effort to tackle malaria in the region.
