Trimeris pull needle-free HIV device
Manufacturer Trimeris has decided to withdraw an application to produce a device that would have administered its HIV drug Fuzeon.
The company made the statement yesterday (October 3rd) that it was pulling its application for approval for the needle-free Biojector(R) 2000.
TRMS added though that those currently using the device through an existing program or clinical trial could continue to do so.
"As part of our efforts to find administration alternatives, Roche and Trimeris have invested considerable resources to leverage the benefits of the B2000 device for use with Fuzeon," said Michelle Zupancic, vice president of Roche.
"While the device has shown potential benefit for some patients, we don't believe it's the ideal alternative delivery option for all treatment-experienced patients. We continue to review other options for administering Fuzeon.
"In addition, we continue to offer Nurse Connections, a free support program that provides patients in the US with personalised, in-home instruction from a highly-trained nurse."
