THT launches HIV education scheme

The Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) has announced a new major educational scheme which aims to prevent people contracting HIV.

A free guide is being launched in African communities in the UK, in a bid to lower infections in Britain and Africa.

The Biology of Transmission is aimed at young men and explains how HIV can be passed on and what can be done to prevent this.

Marc Thompson, deputy head of health promotion for THT, said: "Many men become sexually active having left school without the basic HIV facts they need to stay safe. Young men have been very enthusiastic about this new campaign."

He added that the scheme's easy to understand visuals and simple language mean that it is more likely to be successful.

Earlier this week, World Vision called for more to be done around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies.
