Nigeria signs Global Fund Grant
The Nigerian government has signed a Global Fund Grant worth $669.39 million (£403 million).
This comes as part of the round eight grant in a bid to tackle diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, Aids and HIV.
Dr John Jinung, chairman of the Country Coordinating Mechanism, said: "Nigeria, as the most populous country in Africa and with relatively high burdens of the three diseases, remains the only African country that demonstrated commitment by donating the sum of $10 million to the fund at its inception."
He added that it would be an underestimation to suggest that these diseases have played a part in the "abysmally low health indices of the country" and other developing nations.
In other news, earlier this week the World Health Organisation launched a new medical facility for the western Pacific.
The body's Collaborating Centre for Community Health Services was opened at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
