New website offers Q&A on bird flu
How prepared are you for bird flu? Residents and businesses are being offered the chance to take a quiz on a new website.
The website has been set up by Broome County authorities in the US in association with the American Red Cross.
BeBCready.org is aimed at making residents and businesses more aware of what they can do in the event of a pandemic.
"Preparedness is not just a government responsibility," said county emergency services director Brett Chellis.
According to the World Health Organization, the global threat of a bird flu pandemic is "serious" as avian influenza mutates into more transmittable strains.
On the website residents will be able to read about the preparedness of Broome emergency services department.
To follow up on the launch of the website, the authorities are holding a series of meetings with question and answers with the community.
