Mug campaign for World Malaria Day

A new initiative has been launched to highlight the upcoming World Malaria Day next month.

The Malaria Foundation International (MFI) has introduced the End Malaria – Blue Ribbon Mug, which is being put on sale in time for World Malaria Day on April 25th 2009.

They are imprinted with the Blue Ribbon logo on the front and back and it is hoped the limited edition items will raise much-needed funds for the fight against the disease through the Student Leaders Against Malaria (SLAM) network.

Dr Esmeralda Meyer, outreach director at the MFI, stated: "SLAM leaders make a difference in their communities by educating children, youth and their families about the basic principles of malaria; how it can be prevented and treated, and more.

"Funds generated through this program help to cover educational workshop expenses, printing, and other relevant costs."

A variety of products are already available for people to swap their donations for, including pins, magnets, T-shirts and special requests.

The MFI was the first organisation in the world dedicated to fighting malaria.
