Mensah hails Ghana's 'remarkable' HIV achievement
Ghana is making strides in its fight against HIV and Aids, it has been claimed.
Sallas Mensah, executive secretary of the Revenue Agencies Governing Board, told the Ghana News Agency that the country's commitment to tackling the disease has reaped rewards.
He was speaking in relation to latest figures which show a HIV and Aids prevalence rate of 1.9 per cent in 2008.
This figure represents a fall from the 5.2 per cent recorded in 2000.
Mr Mensah told the news provider: "This remarkable achievement is an indication that with our collective efforts the war against the disease can easily be won."
He commented that new measures had resulted in more people being tested for HIV and Aids.
One such scheme is the Workplace Project, which has lead to 5,012 out of 7,500 revenue collection agency staff members being tested, as well as 1,000 of their children and partners.
