Malaria experts set to meet
Scientists and experts are set to meet this week to discuss a potential malaria vaccine.
A key part of the discussions, which will take place over six days in Nairobi, will be the Mosquirix medication.
Dr Joe Cohen, vice-president of vaccine research and developer at makers of the vaccine GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), told the Times there is "enormous excitement" about the potential malaria solution.
He said: "We can see implementation starting broadly in 2015. Just a few years ago the idea of a malaria vaccine entering final phase three trials would have been unthinkable. Its a tremendous breakthrough."
Mosquirix has now entered into the phase three trial process, after previous studies involving thousands of African children.
Last week, GSK told Reuters that price will not be an issue if the vaccine is proven to be effective.
Andrew Witty, chief executive for the company, said that cost would "not get in the way of access for malaria vaccines".
