Japan donates for Ethiopian children
A donation from the government of Japan has been received by UNICEF Ethiopia.
The $6 million (£4.01 million) sum is to be used to help children in the country struggling from disease and a lack of food.
Food price inflation in Ethipoia has left many young people vulnerable as the global economic crisis affects the country.
Kinichi Komano, ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, said: "Rising prices have added to the daily survival challenges faced by vulnerable communities in Ethiopia.
"The government of Japan recognizes these pressures and is providing this support through UNICEF to help mitigate the effects on the most vulnerable victims, the children."
This money will also help deliver basic health services to more than 500,000 children through an urban health extension programme being run from Addis Ababa.
Since the health extension programme started in 1990, the under-five mortality rate in Ethiopia has been reduced by more than 40 per cent.
