HIV travel movement launched

A new scheme to encourage travellers to give money to help fund the fight against Aids has been launched.

The movement, called MASSIVEGOOD, is being run by the Millennium Foundation for Innovative Finance for Health.

Following a meeting at the United Nations, the initiative is up and running with the support of the worldwide tourism industry.

Small donations can be made every time travel services are purchased through the project, which will go towards helping UNITAID, a World Health Organisation-hosted health group.

Millennium Foundation chairman Dr Philippe Douste-Blazy said: "The biggest crisis the world is facing is the glaring inequalities in access to health care between the rich and the poor.

Dr Bernard Salome, managing director of the group, added: "Our message is quite simple: you can help change the world one click at a time from where you are sitting and join a movement that will do MASSIVEGOOD."

The scheme was launched at the UN General Assembly in New York.
