HIV-infected mother to sue government

One of the four Peruvians reported to have been infected with HIV from an infected blood transfusion has said she will sue the government.

Judith Rivera, a mother of three, has said she is going launch a legal case after receiving HIV-tainted blood at the Daniel Carrion hospital in April this year.

The 44-year-old is one of four, including an 11-month-old baby, who contracted the virus.

"I will not be dissuaded from this lawsuit for indemnity for life from the state, to which I am entitled," said Ms Rivera, reports the Agence France-Presse.

"They made a commitment to give me medicine, but I need to support my three children.

"Now I'm going to have to spend money that I don't have on a lawsuit, but I'm going to fight for that compensation," she said.

It has also been confirmed that 30 patients who attended a dialysis treatment centre in the country were infected with Hepatitis C.ADNFCR-1130-ID-18281688-ADNFCR
