Hilary Duff launches world's largest Aids event

The largest fundraising event for Aids in the world is set to take place tomorrow (May 14th) and it will be launched by Hilary Duff.

Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) and Aids Walk New York (AWNY) will begin the 24th annual AWNY event, with Duff leading a lighting ceremony at the Empire State Building.

The famous monument will glow red from midday in order to signal the beginning of the fundraising initiative.

Duff said: "In tough times, it's even more important for people to get involved. Everyone should find a cause they believe in whether it is something in your local community or something as big a global issue as Aids."

Dr Marjorie J Hill, chief executive of GMHC, added: "From sunset to midnight on Thursday, New Yorkers will see the solid red colour, synonymous with Aids awareness, beaming from the building."

Last year, more than 45,000 people took part in the walk, including 2,400 corporate and community teams.
