Global Fund commitment to Uganda
The Global Fund to Fight Aids, TB and Malaria has reaffirmed its commitment to improve health conditions in Uganda.
Programmes to combat the diseases are already underway in the country and the Global Fund is looking to work with partners including the government to increase these efforts.
Strategies to prevent malaria and to supply anti-retroviral drugs are two of the priorities of the organisation in Uganda.
Dr William Paton, director of country programmes of the Global Fund, said that a huge investment is being made to distribute more than 7.2 million bed nets to help fight malaria.
"Uganda has demonstrated its leadership in responding to Aids and to strengthening its health system over many years now and we will continue to support its efforts," he added.
"We acknowledge the efforts taken by the government and partners here in Uganda, particularly efforts to ensure continuous supply of anti-retrovirals and to scale-up malaria prevention activities."
Funding has been distributed by the Global Fund to tackle health problems in 140 countries around the world.
