Elton John calls for Aids education
Elton John has spoken at a benefit night for the Aids Foundation.
The singer explained that while the world is suffering due to the economic downturn, Aids must not lose out because of this.
He said: "We are in a bad time economically and everybody's vying for attention - we mustn't let Aids get onto the back seat.
"It's very important that it stays in the forefront of our attention because it's a disease that's not going away. In fact it's really increasing in a lot of areas."
He also told Radio 1 that a key part of the Aids issue is eradicating complacency, with each generation needing to be educated about Aids and HIV.
The event took place earlier this week in New York and was also attended by the likes of Bill Clinton and Sharon Stone.
Last week, the Terrance Higgins Trust launched a new educational scheme which aims to prevent people contracting HIV.
