Ebola under control in DRC say health workers
Doctors in the Democratic Republic of Congo say that they are bringing the recent outbreak of Ebola in the country under control.
The Doctors Without Borders (MSF) aid group said yesterday (October 1st) that the number of admissions to an isolation unit in Kampungu is down from previous weeks, reports the Agence France-Presse.
Since September 11th, 24 cases of Ebola have been confirmed in the West Kasai region, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
"We are close to controlling the Ebola outbreak. But we remain vigilant as the virus is still circulating in some of the neighbouring villages," said MSF epidemiologist Michel Van Herp in a statement.
A total of 170 people have been reported to have died from Ebola in the Kasai Occidental region over the last four months.
In 50 to 90 per cent of cases, Ebola results in death and symptoms start with fever and muscle pain, followed by vomiting and diarrhoea.
