Ebola threat recedes in Uganda

More than 90 per cent of the people confined to their homes following contact with Ebola victims in Nigeria have been given the all-clear, according to medical officials in the affected area

Tests on 415 people quarantined in their homes following the outbreak in the Nigerian district of Bundibugyo revealed 32 cases of infection in total, New Vision reported.

However, the experts warned that the disease could re-appear if people disregarded precautionary measures, including avoiding close bodily contact such as sex.

"We have cleared 91 per cent of the 415 people we had confined," Ebola task force member, Elias Byamungu, told the website. "Laboratory blood samples have shown only 32 positive cases."

"People are still engaging in sexual intercourse in lodges as if the situation is normal. We shall round them up if they don't heed our advice," he added.

According to the Ugandan government, the current outbreak of Ebola fever has killed a total of 35 people so far.
