Concern over Yemen crisis

The current humanitarian crisis in Yemen is cause for concern for the world's health authorities, it has been claimed.

Unicef is trying to provide life-saving help and support to people in the country, especially women and children.

New hostilities in Yemen are forcing many children to leave their homes and all manner of health issues have arose.

Aboudou Karimou Adjibade, Unicef representative to Yemen, said: "It is estimated that over 100,000 persons have been displaced by the latest round of fighting, many of them are children.

"Children often bear the brunt of conflict and it is crucial that we gain immediate access to them to provide them with the assistance they need."

The spread of diarrhoea is a major health worry, with the charity distributing 500 hygiene kits, 300,000 water purification tablets and 825 water filters to combat the problem.

Unicef is the largest provider of vaccines for developing countries in the world.
