Comic book spreads malaria message

A message to be aware of the risks of malaria and take precautions against the disease is being spread in a novel way in India.

Chillibreeze.com has produced a new comic book with an anti-malaria theme.

The book, titled A Tale of Two Magic Potions, is aiming especially to target north-east India, where malaria is most widespread.

Students in schools are being handed the comic books free across the country in an effort to increase awareness of malaria's threat amongst young people.

Dr Nishi Viswanathan, director at Chillibreeze.com, told the Morung Express: "Though it is essentially a preventable disease, hundreds of people in India die of malaria.

"Distributing mosquito nets will help to a certain extent but the long term solution lies in empowering tomorrow's citizens with knowledge. Of course, ours is a small effort and it has just begun."

A Tale of Two Magic Potions is intended to be the first in a line of health-based comic books.
