City workers abseil for malaria

A group of City workers in the UK have undertaken a daring challenge in order to raise money to combat malaria.

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) raised £25,000 to go towards helping people in Africa to combat the disease by abseiling down the side of a building.

The group of 50 employees took part in the six-hour event at the professional services firm's London head office, which is opposite the London Eye.

All proceeds from the abseiling challenge will go towards projects run by the Against Malaria Foundation, with more than 8,000 anti-malaria bed nets being bought with the money and sent to Africa.

PwC has worked with the charity for over four years and raised more than £250,000 during that period to help fight malaria in developing countries around the world.

This has been spent on just under 100,000 bed nets, which have helped approximately 160,000 families.

Around 250 million cases of malaria occur around the globe annually.
