Child health agreement for Korea
A new agreement to safeguard the health and safety of children has been made between the government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Unicef.
The deal will see more collaborative work between the charity and authorities in the country to support children around the world.
A framework agreement has been signed, which Unicef intends to use as a model for joint programmes in African nations.
HE YU Myung-hwan, ROK minister for foreign affairs and trade, sealed the partnership with Ann M Veneman, executive director of Unicef.
"ROK's support to Unicef is providing life-saving help to children in need around the world," said Veneman.
"This agreement will inspire even closer collaboration between ROK and Unicef, in the interests of the world's most vulnerable children."
ROK now has a national committee working to collect donations from the private sector and individuals, with funds being used to aid children suffering across the globe.
Framework agreements are in operation with Unicef in 14 countries, while the organisation works in more than 150 nations in total.
