Botswana is facing a struggle in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), it has been suggested.
Oabile Mafunga, a councilor for Gaborone, has commented that the country has one of the highest burden's in the world when it comes to the disease, the nation's governmental website has reported.
The councilor revealed that 470 in every 100,000 people in Botswana have TB.
He stated that if this issue is to be effectively tackled, patients must cooperate with health workers and comply with treatments.
Mr Mafunga also pointed out that ten per cent of healthcare institutional admissions are due to TB and related illnesses.
He added that the problem is particularly prevalent in the city of Gaborone, where there are currently 800 registered patients with the disease, although this is down from 1,137 last year.
