Beckham joins malaria campaign

A campaign to rid the world of malaria has gained the support of some of the world's top sports stars.

These include David Beckham, who was among the big names at a Malaria No More launch in London.

The England and AC Milan footballer was also joined by tennis star Andy Murray and Olympic gold medal winner Denise Lewis at the event.

They were at Downing Street for a meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown to discuss the subject of malaria and how people can help to rid the world of the disease.

Beckham commented: "It's truly incredible to think we can stop this killer disease forever and it's such a simple thing to do.

"For less than a cost of a football you can protect a family from dying."

A key aim of Malaria No More is to ensure everyone in Africa has access to a mosquito net by 2010, with a longer-term aim of eradicating malaria by 2015.
