Beckham in malaria ads

David Beckham is the star of a new TV campaign to raise awareness of the problem of malaria in Africa.

The footballer will appear in a 30-second clip for charity Malaria No More UK, which highlights the need for mosquito nets in Africa.

Beckham is seen kicking a ball into a goal with no net, to illustrate that many families in Africa are not being protected against the disease.

Breaks in coverage of tonight's Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona have been chosen to premiere the advertisement.

In addition, TV company Sky will allow viewers to donate and learn more about the cause by pressing the red button while the advertisement is on.

Beckham commented: "It's truly incredible to think we can stop this killer disease forever and it's such a simple ask.

"For less than the cost of a football you can protect a family from dying. I urge the UK public to get behind the Malaria No More UK campaign to buy a net, save a life and make malaria no more."

He is a founding member of the charity's newly-formed leadership council.
