Aids in the workplace project launched

A tool to help people with Aids get on in the workplace and continue their careers has been launched in India.

The International Labour Organisation, in association with UNAIDS, arranged World Day for Decent Work yesterday (October 7th).

This event promoted freedom from discrimination at work for people suffering from Aids, as well as the expansion of job opportunities and increased social protection.

A new training video and handbook combination was launched to coincide with this scheme, which provides advice and guidance on living with HIV in working life.

Charles Gilks, UNAIDS country coordinator in India, said: "We cannot stress enough the importance of the rights of people living with HIV - to respect, dignity, access to care and treatment, and here in this project, the right to work.

"Building the capacity of people to advocate this is critical."

The tool was produced in conjunction with the India Network of People living with HIV/Aids.
